Living Skirt Art

I'm happy to share my contribution to Skirt Fixation's Living Skirt Art Series. Audrey tasked us to Choose a piece of art with a skirt in it, Recreate the look then Photograph it. Easy enough.

Dancing in the Rain by Andre Kohn

Dancing in the Rain by Andre Kohn

The red and white striped tights in Andre Kohn's "Dancing in the Rain" immediately caught my eye. However, finding red and white stripe fabric for tights was a bit of a challenge that almost derailed the project. I ultimately found a pair of red and black thigh high socks in the Halloween section of Joann's. Thanks to the generosity of YouTube I figured out how to change the color of the stripe in the tights with Photoshop.

I wanted the skirt to have movement so I created a simple godet skirt from some brown ponte knit I had in my stash. To achieve the uneven hem line I made slits in the skirt from the hemline to about 3 inches from the waistband then inserted the square godets.

E enjoyed twirling in the skirt. I think I will cut the hemline even and pair the skirt with a sweater, tights and brown knee boots for the fall.

Thanks for having me Audrey!
