DIY DOCTOR COSTUME

Grace wanted to dress up like Doc McStuffins so I thought it would be cool to dress Mingo up as Stuffie or Chillie (Doc's sidekicks/assistants).  Turns out the kid doesn't like to wear "costumes".  He totally freaked out when I put the dragon hood on his head.  You would think I would have learned my lesson after he flat out refused to wear animal costumes for the last two Halloweens.  Back to the drawing board.

Two doctors it is! That's every mothers dream right? two doctors in the family. After cutting out the jacket I realized I didn't have enough fabric for the sleeves, so I had to send my husband to JoAnn's to pick up a half yard of fabric - ALL BY HIMSELF.  Poor guy.  Have you ever tried sending a photo of white fabric via text message?  Total waste of time. 5 text messages and 2 phone calls later, he brought home the wrong fabric, but I am forever grateful that he at least tried. I didn't have the heart to tell him he got the wrong fabric, so I had to sew the sleeves in two pieces - hence the seam down the middle of the sleeve.
The Jacket is McCall's Pattern 6016.  I explained how I turned this pattern into a lab coat here. The scrubs are Simplicity Costumes for Kids Pattern 3650.

Mingo was in full character in his costume, he helped this poor lady who was clearly in distress.
