Whoever said children grow like weeds, wasn't lying. My child woke up Saturday morning looking like Jack and the Beanstalk. Her pants were so far up her leg, they were at least 2-3 inches short. I did not notice this at bedtime, so she literally grew overnight. No worries, I keep a stash of fabric for emergencies like these.

Much better. Wouldn't you agree?
Want to make your own, here's what you'll need:
Fabric - Elastic - A pair of pants to make a pattern

1. Fold your fabric in half the long way. You should now have 4 pieces. Fold the pants you are using to make your pattern in half and lay them flat unto the fold of the fabric.
These are quick pants so I just draw my pattern piece directly onto the fabric. Allow yourself enough room for seam allowance, growth and/or shrinkage. I learned the hard way, that this fabric does shrink. I don't bother cutting a different front and back pattern piece for these pants. I just make sure the crouch is long enough to accommodate a diaper booty. Cut.
2. Lay the pieces right sides facing on top of each other and sew the front and back/crouch seams together.
3. Fold the pants and sew the inner leg seams together. Hem pants.
4. Add elastic. In the pair pictured above, I had to cut the waistband down an inch to accommodate the elastic waistband. Otherwise you would just fold the waistband over creating a pocket and sew, then feed the elastic through.

Diaper Booty.
it's beautiful :)

DeleteLove the PJ pants and will give this a go for my great-grandson and to also cut pants short for summer PJ's. Thank you so much for sharing.

DeleteThey are such fun! I love the look of the fold over elastic as a waist band. I hadn't thought to do that. I am inspired to make my niece a skirt with a fold over elastic waist band.
